A quick guide to what and what not to feed the 6 month baby.
6 month milestone
Once your baby reach the 6 month milestone every mom will be confused how to feed solid what solids can be introduced to baby and in addition to that people around you would shower the advice over you and this adds a little bit confusion to you very soon the situation will be absurd .
The digestive enzymes of the baby will be developed from 4-6 months of the baby.
So do not worry here's what you need to do .
Always remember.
How do you know the baby is ready for solid ?
And when the baby is hungry even after breastfeeding thats when you know baby is ready for solids .
When the baby shows interest in food while others eating.
When the baby themselves able to reach their hand towards their mouth .
Food chart
Before you start with the solids consult your paediatrician. And don't give the mixture of fruits and vegetables always follow 3 day wait rule for every food you introduce. That's when you know the baby is okay with the digestion or issue with allergic to the food so see to the result on the 4 day .
This particular food chart is full on my personal experience which i followed to my 6 month old baby.
- Breakfast
First thing in the morning as soon as the baby wakes up begin with 30ml of raisin water . For this u have to soak the dry grapes like 5-8 fruit in a cup of water and give it to the baby when it wakes up . Because this water has many benefits the major thing baby will not have motion sickness or irritation while peeing .
It's not about weaning with fruit or vegetable. It's about introducing them to all the natural flavours and textures . Many would suggest to begin with vegetable than fruit but there is not evidence that baby would like vegetable more . So it's about the texture and flavour. My personal advice would be to start with fruit give it a go with Apple Puree.
Apple Puree : for this you have peel off the skin and make sure to take away the seeds and steam the apple till it becomes soft . Make it a Puree and feed to the baby first a spoonful and then make sure there's no any difference and increase quantity.
Other fruits and vegetables for breakfast:
- Banana
- Chickoo
- Ripe avocado
- Pear
- Papaya
- Sweet potato puree
- Cantaloupe
- Watermelon puree
- Banana + strawberry puree
- Banana + kiwi puree
- Sweet potato + apple + cinnamon
- Blueberry + avocado Puree
- Mango + banana puree
- Cantaloupe + banana
- Cantaloupe + mango
- Apple + apricot
In addition to that u can normally breastfeed or u can give formula to your baby . Whatever their routine is to be followed. Or you can follow your schedule of feeding the baby once they are used to the solids
2.Lunch
Begin with clear soups .
Like clear dal soup and also rice water (kanji) can be given to baby .
And important thing is don't add salt or sugar to the babies as it may lead to various side effects like indigestion and sometimes adding salt to the babies diet can cause kidney damage , high blood pressure and heart disease because of the excess salt . And the baby has to explore the natural flavours and texture of the food .
Vegetables suggestion for lunch :
- Pumpkin puree
- Beetroot puree
- Carrot puree
- green peas puree
Note : vegetables should be washed completely and peeled boiled till it softens and then mashed and make it into puree .
Lentils suggestion:
- Moong dal
- Toor dal
- Quinoa porridge
- Chickpea puree
Combination food :
- Ragi porridge
- Apple with ragi porridge
- Wheat apple porridge
- Dal and veggie puree
Note : the combination food should be given by 4th week of the 6 month baby . Please avoid giving this during the early week or as soon as u begin with the solids .
Directions to make:
- Take 2-3 spoons of home made rice powder and add it to a pan.
- Add 1 cup of water.
- Heat the mixture till it simmers. Usually it takes about 6-7 minutes before it is ready.
- Keep stirring to avoid formation of lumps.
- Allow it to cool down a little and serve in a bowl.
3.Dinner :
Thoroughout the 6 month it's better to avoid solids during bedtime . It's a must to avoid solids during bedtime. So as per your own schedule breastfeed/formula to your baby .
Conclusion
